Bob seems to be wearing the "St. Gildas Defend Us" sweatshirt that I made him shortly after I discovered when leafing through a reference book that St. Gildas was the patron saint of idiots. We figured we could use all the help we could get -- Bob was working on his dissertation and I was writing (and re-writing and re-writing) my M.A. thesis -- so we adopted him as our own patron saint. In 1968, when Bob and I were working for radio station WSUI, we and our friends put on a radio program for the first [and last] annual St. Gildas' Day festival.
